Reason as a Gift

LaToyaWhy You Need to Learn to Ask & Answer the Hard Questions

During conversations with a friend who does not have a relationship with Christ but who has many questions about Christianity, LaToya Gray found herself in a challenging place. “My friend is a very logical person, and after several discussions about faith went nowhere, I felt prompted to re-evaluate the way I am sharing my beliefs with him and others like him,” she explained.

This past spring, LaToya signed up for a women’s Bible study called “Why Do You Believe That?” by Mary Jo Sharp. The study focused on “apologetics” – how to defend your faith. LaToya now excitedly applies what she learned to her relationships and conversations. “Specifically, I learned that reason can be used to talk to others about the Christian faith,” shared LaToya. “In today’s popular culture, Christians are often portrayed as backwards, illogical, and devoid of reason when it comes to their beliefs. In fact, Jesus used logic and reason throughout his teaching and responses to questions in order to get his message across. Reason is a gift from God, and we should not be afraid to use it to help spread the good news of faith here on earth!”

In August, Needle’s Eye will be offering another workshop on apologetics called Sharing Your Faith 201: Asking and Answering the Hard Questions. “For anyone struggling with sharing their faith with those who are questioning their beliefs, I highly recommend the Sharing Your Faith 201 workshop. The knowledge I gained gave me confidence to engage in conversations about faith that I would usually avoid,” she encouraged. “As Christians, we should joyfully learn and apply the tools of logic and reasoning to our conversations. It takes just one conversation, one planting of a seed to lead someone to Christ. The more comfortable and well-versed we are in sharing our beliefs, the more seeds we are able to plant!”

Sharing Your Faith 201 will be offered on Wednesday, August 14. Sharing Your Faith 101 is not required to participate in this workshop. For more details and to register, click here
